This poem was written by the son in law of my maternal great-grandmother’s Sister Berenice Di Nocera Ventriglia.  Vincenzo was married to Titina Di nocera, both deceased now, and had quite a few children one of them is Rosanna Lettillo Marseglia, my mom’s cousin, and she is an award winning Napolitan poet.  I will be publishing here work. Art is embeded on our DNA from both mother and fathers side.

Nu saluto ‘a Maria

Maronna mia, famme sentì cà nun te songo indifferente, cà nun è overo ca ‘nte mporta niente.

 Quannno te guardo me pare ‘e sta dint’ o’ Paraviso forse sarrà sta curona e tante stelle? O so chist’ uocchi belli ca tiene fronte?.

 Maria mamma mia, fatte salutà famme capì che già me perdunato.

 ‘O saccio ca so nu peccatore, ma po munno ce stanno tanti serpiente ca strisciano, ca scavano, c’arrobbeno.

 Fa cunto ‘ca fosse n’auciello ca songo e chiù belle criature e sta natura.

 Stamme a sentì Maronna mia famme arrepusà nu poco int’a stu nivo, voglio cantà comme ognuno e st’auciello ca vola e se ne vanta, e alleramente canta ringrazianno a Dio.
