Hamlin Dead is quite a talented, assertive, and interesting character.

I met Costas on the internet, he was trying to build audience for his music, I liked his aggressiveness, not a common trait for many people. I decided right then and there to meet this person; he looked extremely young and yet sounded so mature.  Additionally, I heard his music it is combination of classical, new age and modern ummmmmm… I said, I like it!! Next thing you know I added him on facebook and played his music on my radio show. At the time Costas was creating his Fanulone project .

I just love people that have the talent to create something original!!

So, who is this Greek musical wonder man? Let get to know him.

Costas Molvalis was born on September 29, 1987, the eldest of two siblings. His mother and her family are from Symi and island near Rhodes, to this day is Costas favourite island; Costas father was born and raised in Piraeus,  his paternal grandfather was originally from Mytilini but raised in Piraeus and his paternal great grandmother from Smyrna, Asia Minor. Aha! I found the musical genetic connection!

I asked Costas: “At which age did you realize that you had musical talent?  To which he replied: “Talent? No… no…no …I do not say that I have musical talent just a great love for music!!! I disagree; this young man has great talent both in music and creativity.

Costas favourite subjects in school were Physics and Math, he states adamantly the he “just liked” those subjects, he dislike most of the book prescribed by the school system and became interested only in extracurricular books. Forgot to ask what sort of books…hehehe…

Costa’s interested and love of music begun at the early age of ten, his original learning begun through listening to the radio; eventually he was lucky to have met people that opened his mind and directly or indirectly learned the meaning of music through them; Costas loves music in general and likes most genres but his favourites are: rock, funk, jazz, reggae, soul, latin, and disco

Costa’s passion for music motivated him to graduate in 2007 from College in “Music Technology and Film scoring”; since his career begun to develop he has successfully did the mixing and orchestration for 3 songs composed by Anastasis Chamilakis, he is the pianist for a Greek musical group called  “Verbal Delirium”, for a movie called “Kathikon” (The Task).

Producer, DJ, and electronic music enthusiast alike, Hamlin Dead hails out of Greece. When not performing, he spends his time in the studio creating his own music.

Having spent many years improving his skills and his knowledge about music alongside professional musicians and friends, holding multiple residencies and DJing special events, Hamlin Dead has had a lot of time to develop his sound. For him, it’s all about mood and a psy, funky groove… playing those tracks that get you tapping your feet and nodding your head without you realizing it, regardless of genre, tempo, style, or release date. Don’t be surprised when you suddenly find yourself dancing.

Having grown up with disco and funk influences… all which became infused with his own love for rock music, Hamlin ended up with quite a mixed spectrum of musical influence, all on top of a pronounced foot-shuffling disco house beat.

A continually active member of his local community, Hamlin is no stranger to the ups-and-downs of a small-town music scene. Though he loves playing in small bars, pubs and special events, his love for music goes beyond the spectrum of mixing tunes.

Past project:

The Fanulone Project was created in 2005 and originated from a friends request to write a musical dedication to his friends; it is a musical experiment with influences from various genres, especially rock,, funk, jazz and I believe new age as well.  It is definitely a new kind of music which is very appealing to the ears.  I read recently that different kinds of music relate to different kinds of flavours, at present there are a few researches on the topic, to me Fanulone Project brings the flavour of fresh fruits and seafood!!

Fanulone project is definitely Costas Molvalis but he has quite a few musician friends cooperating on his project and the musicians themselves are as varied as the end musical product itself; the first CD is due to be released by the end of 2011. Costas assured me that the upcoming CD will contain many surprises both musical and non-musical. The first priority of Fanulone Project is to have listeners from all over the world hears something different, new and experimental.  I am certain that once people begin to listen to this music Fanulone Project shall have international as well as national fans. I am one of them!!

The “Fanulone Project” is not a typical band, actually is totally different form most musical groups, that is why Costas calls it “EXPERIMENTAL”

I asked Costas what inspired him to write and he stated: “Everything that happens in the world, fun, misery, famine, poverty, politics to name a few and of course my feelings”  Well the Fanulone projuect is history now and Costas is our very own “Hamlin Dead”

Costas loves many musical instruments, he loves piano, to which he refers as the “king of all instruments”, violin and trumpet.  He vehemently states that he loves all classic and ethnic musical instruments.  He just gets so excited when he can get hold of Turkish, Chinese and African instruments.

I asked Costas what are his future goals and he said: “Firstly I want to release my first album, this particular one is orchestral and inspired by funk, rock and jazz.  After that anything good is welcome!”

Costas has many interests besides his passion from music he loves his computer, hehehe… he says: “I cannot imagine living without it”…hehehe…I agree same here! ; He loves to watch good movies and TV series and is deeply interested in historical and biographical books and he further says: “Real history!! Nowadays children learn fake history in schools.”  Ummm… Costas is a deep-thinking philosopher as well. I love that!

Costas Molvali’s dream is in his words: “To offer a different kind of listening to the ears of world, not more of the same and the same. You know what I mean!”
